ROMUALDAS NAVICKAS (W.W.K.C. 8 DAN, Shindokai 6 DAN, Bushido 6 DAN, combatant self-defense 5 DAN, Shindokan 4 DAN, Goju Ryu 2 DAN) was born on 7 February in 1955. He became interested in Greek-Roman wrestling in Kaunas back in 1966 (coach A. Liaugminas). From 1970 he was one of the creators of the karate system. On request he even carried out training sessions on the basis of his own system of karate workouts. In 1973 R. Navickas started collaborating with masters from Kiev and a while later – karate masters from Vietnam and Kong. During the period from 1974 to 1981 he actively trained karate sportsmen and participated in various competitions in the Soviet Union himself. In the same year he established a sports club Ąžuolas (Oak).
In 1981 by the initiative of R. Navickas Lithuania Combatant Self-defense system was developed. Various specialists and coaches were involved in this activity, for example, A. Gečiauskas, S. Veprauskas, Č. Jezerskis, J. Škerys, E,. Rūkas and etc. In 1988 Lithuania Combatant Self-defense Federation was established. The system of combatant self-defense was used in Lithuanian army from 1992. On January 1991 the club’s sportsmen were actively participating in the events that took place: they were defending the independence of Lithuania.
In 1992 R. Navickas was improving his skills according to the style of Goju Ryu in England. His coach was 7 DAN master R. Honiball. During the same year he passed combatant self-defense 5 DAN and Goju Ryu 2 DAN in 1993.
Lithuania Shidokan Federation was established in 1996 and European Shidokan Federation in 1998. R. Navickas was elected as a chairman (vice-president) in the European Coach Council. In 1999 he was awarded with the name of Lithuania Branch President (Certificate No. 210) and in the same year he received W.W.K.C. 6 DAN. Yoshiji Soeno awarded R. Navickas with Japanese Shidokan DAN in 2002.
During 40 years of work in the field of sports R. Navickas trained and prepared a lot of excellent sportsmen and coaches, who are now members of different federations of karate sports. Sportsmen who were trained by R. Navickis achieved a lot of victories in both World and European championships as well as international tournaments.


An example of this is master’s son MANTAS NAVICKAS 1 DAN, who is now studying in Lithuania Sports University. He became interested in martial arts and his father’s sporting activities, therefore, began his workouts at the age of 11. During his career as a sportsman he has already participated in a lot of competitions and tournaments both in Lithuania and abroad. The most important achievements of Mantas are:
- 1st place in more frequent Lithuanian tournaments;
- 1st place in more frequent international tournaments;
- France-Nica tournament, 1st place winner;
- 1st place in European tournaments (two times);
- Award from Kaunas town municipality due to his achievements that glorify Lithuania.
Mantas Navickas shares his experience and knowledge with other sportsmen during his training sessions. He also works as a referee in Bushido, MMA, K-1 tournaments.

Linas Kevlicius joined Romualdas Navickas A+Team in Sport Club "Azuolas" when he was 16. in late 1980 he was youngest man joining Elite Team. Rest fighters were 6-10 years older, with a lof fighting experience. He got chance to be trained and beat each day by best fighters in town and country. It helped him to get tough and be ready for anything life brings him. Romualdas Navickas created Lithuanian Combat Self-Defence Federation... and that style got a lot of attention from Soviet Union. His A+ team members were fighting Russian Elite force solders in many different underground Tournaments all over former Soviet Union. Romualdas Navickas is so well known, even after so many years-that if you say you from Kaunas-you always get question, if you know couch Romualdas Navickas. Linas Kevlicius moved to USA in 1996 and since then he took part in many different competition and many different styles. He took few gold medals in Olympic Style Taekwondo as well as Karate Do. His fighters from Chicago based Combat Fighters Club took many gold medals in Karate Do, Taekwondo, Ju Jitsu and Shidokan national and world compations.. Now he is President of USA Amateur K-1 Federation, Non for Profit organization-whos goal is to bring Amateur K-1 sport into Olympic Games!
